The former world champion in six different weight divisions, Oscar De La Hoya, is not ruling out the possibility of a ring return.
De La Hoya, 44 years old, has not fought since he was battered in a TKO defeat at the hands of Manny Pacquiao in the fall of 2008. He retired following the loss.
Since then, De La Hoya's day to day schedule has been consumed by his promotional company, Golden Boy Promotions - where the retired boxer serves as the CEO.
A few weeks ago, De La Hoya made worldwide headlines when he revealed that he was back in full training for a ring return and targeted UFC superstar Conor McGregor as a comeback opponent.
But two weeks ago, De La Hoya appeared to back away from that position as he threw cold water on a potential fight with McGregor.
In the last week or so, De La Hoya has been trading words with Floyd Mayweather Jr. - who stopped McGregor in the tenth round back in August.
Mayweather took shots at De La Hoya for targeting McGregor, because the Golden CEO was highly critical of Mayweather's decision to fight the MMA star.
It didn't take long before De La Hoya turned to social media to return fire in Mayweather's direction.
De La Hoya indicates that he's still serious about returning, if the right opportunity came up, and he's still very much in the gym training hard.
He also threw shade at Mayweather - stating that Floyd avoided their planned rematch back in 2007.
"I'm serious [about returning], I'm still training, we'll see what's going to happen, I'm still training," De La Hoya said to ESPN Deportes. "Mayweather [is throwing all of these things at me] and it's obvious that he ran from our rematch, but for me the most important thing is that I feel good and I'll continue training.
"I'm still open to a possible comeback. I know it won't be with Mayweather, because he does not like to fight real fighters."
