After the rematch between Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin was confirmed for May 5th, three Mexican legends feel confident that Canelo (49-1-2, 34 KOs) has everything in his power to beat GGG.
The two boxers fought to a controversial twelve round split draw on September 16th, 2017 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Humberto "Chiquita" González, Guadalupe Pintor and Pipino Cuevas, all members of the Internation Boxing Hall of Fame, full agree that with a good preparation the Guadalajara boxer can come away with the victory and even knock Golovkin out.
All three of the Mexican legends believe Canelo is on the doorstep of knocking Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs) out.
"He must go out there with everything, do what he knows best, prepare to throw punches, wait for the opportunity to knock him out and do it," said "Chiquita" González.
"We expect another great fight. They will both make a fight with more power, and they will make a fight that people will like."
Pintor highlighted the growth that Saul has had in his professional career.
"He has already been tested by Golovkin, who hits very hard. In addition, there is one thing against Golovkin, age - a benefit for 'Canelo' and that's why I think he can come out ahead. I hope he prepares and comes out with a lot of determination, because that is the only thing he needs to win that fight," Pintor said.
Cuevas, on the other hand, made it clear that it will be an exciting fight like the first one, and he anticipates that his compatriot will be the winner.
"We hope that Canelo wins, that he prepares well, that he maintains a good physical condition and can win by knockout... if he prepares well, like a champion, he can win exactly like that," Cuevas said.
