Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. (65-9, 47 KOs) has no desire to retire from boxing as 2018 approaches.
Jones, 48 years old, only fought once in 2017, when he stopped journeyman Bobby Gunn in eight rounds back in in February.
The boxer will turn 49 in January.
Jones has only been beaten once since 2011 and won eleven other bouts in that time period. The sole defeat, was a brutal knockout loss at the hands of Enzo Maccarinelli. It was the fifth knockout loss of Jones' career.
Most experts believes Jones has never been the same fighter since moving up to heavyweight to unseat John Ruiz for the WBA title in 2003, and then in the same year shaving down a lot of muscle to get back to 175-pounds to fight Antonio Tarver.
With the exception of Denis Lebedev, who knocked Jones out cold in 2011, nearly all of Roy's notable opponents have already retired and walked away from the sport.
Jones refuses to retire and doesn't care about the experts and fans who believe he's crazy to continue his career.
“They can say what they want to say,” Jones told NY Fights. “The whole reason I got to where I was in boxing was because I didn’t give a damn thing about what nobody thought about me. Even right now, the reason I continue to move forward is because I don’t give a damn what they think about me.”
“I still beat up people. I still rap about beating up people. I still tell people about beating up people. So it sounds like I still do it all. I love it because I know one day I won’t be able to do this.”
“I better get every inch out of it that I can because one day it will be over and my old bones aren’t going to listen to me. I’m not going to be able to duck and dodge and knock people out forever. Age keeps trying to run me down but it ain’t caught me yet.”
