There is already buzz building about a future match-up between IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence (23-0, 20 KOs) and former undisputed junior welterweight king Terence Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs), who is scheduled to face WBO welterweight belt-holder Jeff Horn in mid-April.
This past weekend at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, New York, Spence impressively dispatched Lamont Peterson in seven rounds.
In attendance was noted trainer, Freddie Roach, who had a boxer on the undercard and was also in the opposite corner when Victor Postol lost a 12-round unification about with Crawford back in the summer of 2016.
When asked about this potential pairing, Roach said on Monday morning from the Wild Card Boxing Club:
"It's probably the best fight out there, right now. I think it will determine who the best fighter in the world is today, at this moment I think it's between those two people. I think pound-for-pound they might be the best two guys out there. That fight really needs to be made," Roach told BoxingScene.com.
While Roach concedes that it is Spence who is the natural 147-pounder, he says of Crawford - "He has really, really good movement. He can box, he can punch, one fight he's moving really well, he's got great legs for twelve rounds and he can really move if he wants to and then when he fought the African (Julius Indongo) last time he knew the guy's style a little bit and came right after him and blasted him out early. (Crawford) has more tools, I think."
So how does this fight play out in his view?
"Right now, I like Crawford [to win]," answered Roach.
"I think he's the best fighter in the world today pound-for-pound. I think he's the best. He's better than (Vasyl) Lomachenko and everyone else because, again, he can do it all."
