The promoter of IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), Tom Loeffler, was happy with the terms of the agreement for the second fight between his pupil and Mexican superstar Saul Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs).
The rematch is scheduled for May 5 at a venue to be determined. Las Vegas is the frontrunner to host the contest.
Golovkin and Canelo faced off on September 16 in an entertaining fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but the outcome left both sides dissatisfied with the result - with the contest being scored a twelve round split draw.
In the last few days, both Canelo and his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, have mentioned the possibility of a trilogy fight.
But Loeffler cautions that a third fight - if it were to happen - would not be an immediate option.
There is no rematch clause for either side in the upcoming tiebreaker.
If Golovkin wins, Loeffler reveals that a showdown with WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders would be their top priority - not a trilogy with Canelo.
Loeffler is not ruling out the possibility of a third fight in the future, but it won't happen in a back to back scenario.
"The ones who are going to win are the fans, because they will not have to wait two or three years for the tiebreaker," said Loeffler to Eduard Cauich.
"[A third fight] was something that neither side discussed. Both Eric Gomez [president of Golden Boy Promotions] and I, said that we would worry about the second fight only. Negotiating another clause for the third fight did not make sense. We agreed that whoever wins would decide if a third fight makes sense. There will not be an immediate fight after that.
"If there is a third fight, it will not be an immediate trilogy. If Golovkin wins, he will unify the title with Saunders."
