Chepo Reynoso, co-trainer and manager of superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34KOs), is confident in their ability to get a very impressive victory in the upcoming rematch with IBF, IBO,WBA,WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33KOs).
Last September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the two boxers battled to a controversial twelve round split draw - with scores of 118-110 for Canelo, 115-113 for Golovkin and 114-114.
The fight is scheduled to take place on May 5th as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend, with the venue still to be determined.
As previously reported, Canelo and his team are going to start the second phase of their training camp next month in the mountains of Colorado - instead of working their camp in the usual scenario of San Diego, California.
Chepo has no worries about Golovkin. He's been studying a lot of his past and most recent fights and believes he's the same fighter from bout to bout - and they expect nothing different in the second fight.
"Golovkin is going to be the same, he's been the same fighter. I do not think he's going to make changes, but we're going to work on some things and I think the key in the rematch is going to be the excellent physical preparation that Saul must have," said Chepo to ESPN Deportes.
The veteran coach indicates that nobody was very happy with the decision from last fall, and they aim to knock Golovkin out to avoid the possibility of another bad decision in the second meeting.
"Nobody was satisfied with the decision (from last September), neither the public, nor the team behind Canelo, nor was Golovkin or his team... there was some discomfort. The fans of each boxer saw their fighter win, so it was very good that the tiebreaker was done immediately so that everyone is happy," Chepo said.
