Duva has been waiting eagerly to begin the rematch negotiations, but she's been unable to get Roc Nation in position to start their discussions.
"We are still waiting for a response from Roc Nation regarding the start of negotiations for the rematch. Hopefully soon this issue will move forward," said Duva to Vasiliy Konov.
In a few recent interviews, Ward has threatened the possibility of retiring from the sport - unless he receives the right deal for the rematch. Ward is unlikely to retire and more likely looking for a better financial package for the second fight. According to Duva, the financial terms for the rematch were already outlined and agreed upon, by both sides, in the original rematch agreement.
Ward received a guarantee of $5 million for the first fight. It's not likely that he will receive the same amount for the rematch. The pay-per-view numbers were less than expected, with around 160,000 buys being generated. With all of the headlines surrounding the rematch and the countless debates over which fighter deserved to win - the rematch may do better on PPV. |
