Andre Ward: Rigondeaux is Pound-for-Pound Number One
By Reynaldo "El Papi Chulo" Sanchez
The current light heavyweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and International Boxing Federation (IBF), Andre Ward (31-0, 15 KOs), made a recent visit to ESPN's 'A Los Golpes' to promote his upcoming rematch with Sergey Kovalev (30-1, 26 KOs).
The rematch is set for June 17th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
During the broadcast, Ward was asked to reveal his personal list for the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the sport.

In a surprise, Ward named WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs) as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the sport.
There is no doubt that Rigondeaux is a very talented fighter, but his biggest enemy is inactivity. He only fought once in 2015 and once in 2016.
Both Ward and Rigondeaux are promoted by Roc Nation Sports. The Cuban boxer's next fight will take place, more than likely, on the Ward-Kovalev undercard. He is scheduled to make a mandatory defense against undefeated Mexican puncher and IBO champion Moises Flores (25-0, 17 KOs).
Ward believes Rigondeaux is often overlooked and not given the proper respect by the experts.
"No one gives him the credit he deserves, 300 amateur fights, two gold medals, but they do not give him recognition," Ward said of Rigondeaux.
While Rigondeaux was the boxer who Ward ranked in the number one position, he had some interesting selections for the remaining four.
At number two, he ranked WBC, WBO junior welterweight champion Terence Crawford, who next month will defend his belts against Olympic gold medal winner Felix Diaz.
The number three position was given to WBO junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, who on May 6th will face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.
At number four, WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, who last week demolished Jason Sosa.
And rounding out the list, at number five, is WBC, WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman.
Surprisingly, Ward's top five does not include middleweight king Gennady Golovkin, eight division champion Manny Pacquiao or super flyweight sensation Roman Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez.
