Former IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-2, 25 KOs) would love to get his hands on four division beltholder Miguel Cotto, who returns on August 26th, against Yoshihiro Kamegai for the vacant WBO junior middleweight title.
Brook is ready to invade the junior middleweight division, after suffering a TKO defeat back in May at the hands of Errol Spence at Bramall Lane in Sheffield.
In that contest, Brook suffered a fractured left orbital bone - which led to him being stopped in the eleventh round. It was Brook's second consecutive defeat, after being stopped last September by middleweight king Gennady Golovkin in five rounds. In that bout Brook suffered a fractured right orbital bone.
Brook is not looking for an easy fight upon returning. He's ready to face the biggest names possible - and loves the idea of a Cotto title fight.
Cotto is looking to end his career by the end of the year, but he's willing to extend his stay in boxing until 2018 - if the right fights comes along. The Puerto Rican superstar recently signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions.
"As you've seen in my last two fights, I want to fight the best," Brook told Sky Sports. "I want to be in a huge fight like the last two. It depends if [Cotto] fancies the job. We know he's a warrior but it depends what's in his sights and how he wants to end his career.
"If I was him I'd want to fight someone like me because our styles would gel and it would be a fantastic fight for the fans. That is the way I'd go and that's the fight I'd want. But of course, I don't speak on behalf of Miguel Cotto. I am in that elite category, the highest in boxing. I want to be in a 12-round fight, in a sell-out arena, with me topping the bill."
