So coming off his emphatic victory over Adrien Broner this past weekend at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, who would Robert Garcia (the co-trainer of Mikey Garcia) prefer to see his brother fight next?
If he could, the veteran coach would like to get Mikey (37-0, 30 KOs) in the ring with two-time Olympic gold medal winner Vasyl Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs)
"If I had my choice, I'd do the Lomachenko fight," Garcia told BoxingScene.com.
Robert is an admirer of Lomachenko, who headlines on ESPN this Saturday night when he defends his WBO super featherweight title against Miguel Marriaga at the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
"I love Lomachenko, his style is beautiful, he's graceful, everybody talks about his style and it's just totally different to what we've ever seen in boxing," Garcia said of the current WBO 130-pound champion.
"We've seen (Sugar Ray) Leonard at one time, we see Floyd Mayweather now but he' just different - he's special. He's unbelievable and he's one of my favorite fighters and that's why I want to see a challenge for Mikey. To see what Mikey can do with someone like Lomachenko."
According to Garcia, Lomachenko and Mikey never sparred while they were both at his gym in Oxnard.
So what would be the game plan versus the gifted southpaw from Ukraine.
Garcia explained - ''I know that it's a possible fight that could happen in the future. I've already done a little bit of my own planning and how the fight would go. Mikey's also very smart, Mikey would have to take control of the center of the ring, don't let Lomachenko control that. Whenever he wanted to do that with Broner he did it and was in control of the whole fight.
"It would be a challenge to see who is the better one at dominating that positions, to take control of the ring."
