SLONE CREATES OFFICIAL ARTWORK FOR MAYWEATHER VS. MCGREGOR
LAS VEGAS (Aug 22, 2017) — Multi-award winning artist Richard T. Slone has been named the official artist for the Mayweather vs McGregor Superfight, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas this Saturday, August 26th, Slone’s artwork will be used as the official image for the world's biggest ever combat sports event and will be featured on an onsite limited edition poster, program book, t-shirts and other important applications.
"I am honored to be the artist to create the painting for this historic event, not only for its importance in the fight world, but because of it’s a massive crossover event that has the entire world watching it”, commented Slone. "My inspiration for this painting was the passion that originates from fighting; it’s in us all. I decided to embody its strength through images of these two great fighters coming right at each other simultaneously throwing punches before a background that depicts their countries flags."
Slone’s work has been featured in numerous international exhibitions, galleries and museums. For more than 20 years he has created paintings for boxing’s biggest events and publications. In 2003 he began to devote 100 percent of his life to art and to his first solo exhibition. Slone is inspired by the fighters that step inside the ring. In his creations he incorporates elements of what it is like to be in a fight, something he learned during the many years he fought as an amateur boxer under the guidance of the late boxing legend “Smokin’” Joe Frazier.
Slone is a self-taught artist who’s paintings have become synonymous with boxing’s super fights, having created scores of official artworks for the sports biggest names in the past decades, including Floyd Mayweather, Lennox Lewis, Canelo, GGG, Oscar de la Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, Ricky Hatton and many more. This year Slone celebrated his 21st year as the Official artist of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
