Amir Khan: I Have To Give McGregor Credit, He Fought Like a Lion

AMIR Khan praised Conor McGregor’s brave loss to Floyd Mayweather last night after the Irishman was defeated via TKO in the 10th round.
A bright start from the Irishman raised eyebrows as he managed to land shots on an unusually accommodating Mayweather.
But the 40-year-old rode out the early storm before seizing control of the fight in the latter stages, eventually forcing referee Robert Byrd to mercifully halt the contest in the 10th round.

Many had fancied Mayweather to put McGregor away early in the fight but the 29-year-old exceeded expectations throughout, landing more significant strikes on Money Mayweather than even Manny Pacquiao managed.
However, despite the valiant performance, The Notorious came up short as he was tagged repeatedly in the 10th before Byrd rightfully stepped in to bring the spectacle to an end.
Former world champion British boxer Amir Khan was among a star-studded crowd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, heaping praise on the Dubliner for his performance in the ring.
“It was a good fight man,” Khan told iFL TV. “You have to give McGregor credit where it’s due, he fought like a lion.
“He was never up to Mayweather’s skill level but still he fought a great fight. You have to take your hat off, he boxed well.”
Prior to McGregor’s fight against Mayweather last night, Khan had suggested he was also open to facing the UFC lightweight champion in a boxing match.
“You’d take it because it’s a big name,” the 30-year-old said.
“To do a fight like that in the UK would be massive. I’d even go to Ireland and fight him there. You might beat him in the ring but walking out of the ring might be a bit of an issue!” |
