FLOYD MAYWEATHER believes Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez can stop Gennady Golovkin by going to the body.
The retired pound-for-pound great has given his former rival advice ahead of the mammoth middleweight showdown this weekend.
Alvarez faces WBA, IBF, IBO and WBC champion Golovkin at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The promotion of the bout was overshadowed by last month’s mismatch which saw Mayweather outclass boxing rookie Conor McGregor in a mega money clash.
But this is the real fight of the year contender and even Mayweather could not avoid it in the build-up to his clash with McGregor.
When Mayweather’s father and trainer, Floyd Snr, was asked in an interview about Alvarez against Golovkin, he interrupted and said: “He’s got to go to the body, Daddy.
“He can stop him if he goes to the body.”
Mayweather Snr added: “It ain’t that Triple-G [Golovkin] is weak to the body, but if you go down there, you’ll find a lot of stuff you haven’t seen before.”
Alvarez lost a points decision to Mayweather in 2013 at a catch-weight just below light-middleweight.
But the Mexican has since gone on to become world champion at light-middleweight and middleweight with wins over the likes of Miguel Cotto, Erislandy Lara, Amir Khan and Liam Smith.
