Earlier today, unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin made several inflammatory statements with respect to his upcoming opponent, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.
The two two fighters are scheduled to collide in a rematch on May 5th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Golovkin sat down with media members on Tuesday, and accused Canelo of knowingly using performance enhancing drugs.
It was revealed two weeks ago that Canelo tested positive for clenbuterol, which the Mexican superstar attributes to eating contaminated meat.
"Again with Mexican meat? Come on," Golovkin said to media members on Tuesday.
"I told you, it's not Mexican meat. This is Canelo. This is his team. This is his promotion. ... Canelo is cheating. They're using these drugs, and everybody is just trying to pretend it's not happening.
Golovkin believes Canelo has been using PEDs for some time.
"It was pretty obvious when (Canelo's) muscles were all (enlarged) ... and with the traces of injections, which were visible," Golovkin said. "I can talk about Oscar De La Hoya, too. He is also not clean. He's dirty.
"You should take a look at the photos and ask a doctor. Ask any doctor. Let him explain what those (muscles) are. It's better even to use the lie detector. Then there wouldn't be any silly questions about meat or fruits or chocolate."
Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez, who promotes Canelo, shook his head at the comments.
"It sounds like he wants out of the fight, he doesn't sound confident," stated Gomez to BoxingScene.com. "If he wants out of the fight he should say so. But these comments, it's very different and contrary to what he said last week - very different and contrary."
Gomez said that he isn't necessarily offended by the remarks but - "very disappointed, his comments about the needle marks and about Oscar and all the other ridiculous comments. They're obviously not true, they're wrong. It's defamation and we're going to take appropriate action."
When asked if he meant legal action, Gomez answered - ''That's all I'm going to say: we're going to take appropriate action."
Has Gomez spoken to the head of GGG Promotions, Tom Loeffler?
"We had a great meeting two weeks ago," said Gomez. "We talked about this, but it seems Tom has no control whatsoever. He can't control Abel (Sanchez, who trains Golovkin), that's a fact. So you know if Gennady is talking like that, he's worried. He's worried about the fight. So if he doesn't want to fight, he should just come out and say it."
But May 5th is still a go, right?
"We have a contract, we're moving forward, it's gonna happen, 100-percent,'' insisted Gomez. "I'm very confident of that."
