Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) believes middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) is continuing to bring up the failed drug tests in order to create an excuse for their upcoming rematch.
The two boxers fought to a controversial twelve round split draw in September 2017.
They meet for a second time for Golovkin's WBA, WBC, IBO world titles on September 15th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo came up positive for the banned substance clenbuterol in a pair of tests taken back in February.
He was suspended for six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission - and the original date of the Golovkin rematch was postponed.
Ever since Canelo came up positive, Golovkin has verbally bashed him with allegations that he believes the Mexican superstar is a longtime user of performance enhancing drugs.
Canelo has maintained that he tested positive because of eating contaminated meat while training in Mexico.
To ensure there were no doubts about this rematch, both boxers have enrolled in a very strict drug testing program under VADA.
Canelo feels the middleweight champ is continuing to bring up the subject of PEDs to create a ready-made excuse for losing the rematch - and he feels the scenario of losing is already on Golovkin's mind.
"Look, I think they can talk or can do, say whatever," said Canelo to ESPN Deportes.
"I think it's an excuse because he knows he's going to lose Sept. 15 and he wants to take hold of that, I think they should do research because clenbuterol is not a steroid, it's not a steroid and it does not help you, it does not help in performance, not in muscle, far from it, I think they should do some research before speaking ..
"And I think they're ** a lot of excuses because he knows he's going to lose on September 15."
