Chocolatito's Return is Targeted For Canelo-Golovkin PPV
By Steve Kim
Former four division world champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez (46-2, 38 KO's) has not been in the ring since he was stopped in brutal fashion last September in his rematch versus WBC super flyweight king Srisaket Sor Rungvisai last September on the 'SuperFly 2' card in Carson, California.
But he could be returning to the ring soon.
"Right now he's committed to coming back, he got the visa situation straightened out in Nicaragua. He's committed to coming back in September, "said Tom Loeffler, who is the Stateside promoter for the future Hall-of-Famer, to BoxingScene.com.

Loeffler continued - "The door is definitely open for 'Chocolatito' to be on any 'SuperFly' show as he remains the most popular fighter, at least as being a fan favorite in that division.
"He set the record for the third highest ticket sales at the StubHub Center behind 'Triple G' (Gennady Golovkin)-Vanes Martirosyan and 'Triple G-(Marco Antonio) Rubio.'Chocolatito' carried the show in the rematch with Srisaket Sor Rungvisai."
'SuperFly 3' is scheduled for September 8th at the Forum in Inglewood, California, but it looks like he'll be placed on another high profile card.
Loeffler is looking to place his return on the back on HBO pay-per-view undercard to the highly anticipated middleweight rematch between Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and WBA, WBC, IBO world champion Gennady Golovkin, which takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Loeffler tells BoxingScene - "We're looking for him to come back on the rematch of Triple G-Canelo. Fans ask me on a regular basis, 'When is Chocolatito coming back? When is he getting back in the ring?' And if we can finalize all the details that what we would be looking at, having him on September 15th in Las Vegas on Mexican Independence Day weekend." |
