ENZO CALZAGHE, the father and trainer of former world champion Joe has died aged 69.
The Italian-born coach led his son through his glittering 46-fight career that saw him win the WBO, WBC and WBA super-middleweight crowns.
Calzaghe coached other big names in the sport including Enzo Maccarinelli and Gavin Rees during his long career as a corner man.

The Italian-Irishman - born in Sardinia in 1949 - trained a number of Welsh fighters during his career.
As well as Maccarinelli and Rees, Bradley Pryce and Nathan Cleverly held belts with Calzaghe in their corner as well.
Tributes came flooding in on Twitter for Calzaghe.
Ex-super heavyweight champion Barry Jones said: “Can’t believe the news I just heard about Enzo Calzaghe. He was always lovely to me right from the amateurs all the way until I finished. R.I.P mate”
And former Welsh middleweight Gary Lockett added: “Sad news regarding the passing of Enzo Calzaghe. Thoughts and prayers go out to Joe and family.”
Boxing commentator John Rawling said: “I am hearing Enzo Calzaghe has died. Mad as a hatter. Always great fun and trained one of our very best. My condolences to all the family.”
Ex-commonwealth gold medalist Alex Arthur wrote: “Gutted to hear my old pal Enzo Calzaghe has passed away. Had some great times with him. Devastated for Joe and the boys and the rest of the family.”
Among his many plaudits Calzaghe won 'Coach of the Year' at the BBC Sports Personality awards back in 2007.
Enzo trained his son to super-middleweight dominance over a decade-long period before Joe stepped up to light-heavyweight.
Joe finished his career unbeaten with a record of 46-0, with his father in the corner for every fight. |
