WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders does not believe Daniel Jacobs is capable of securing a twelve round decision over Canelo Alvarez.
Jacobs and Canelo will collide in a middleweight unification on May 4th, when they battle for the WBA, WBC, IBF world titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Saunders has a lot of respect for Jacobs and feels the New York native has the adequate skills to win - but he doesn't see Canelo losing a decision in Las Vegas.
According to Saunders, Jacobs must get a knockout to win the fight.
Jacobs has rebuilt his career in top form after losing a close twelve round decision to then unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin in March of 2017. Since then, he's fought and beat three undefeated fighters in a row.
"I'm happy for Jacobs because he's been through a lot in his life personally. He's getting a big payday. And maybe he can beat Canelo, but he's never gonna get a decision. He's never gonna get a decision - unless you knock him out and he's on the floor for a minute or two. Canelo is the only man they tried to rob Floyd Mayweather for... it was a majority decision," Saunders said.
"I really feel sorry for him, because he's really got the tools to beat Canelo. But will he? I doubt it, because of the politics in boxing. Sometimes that stops fights from happening. I wish him all the best and hope he does the job."
Saunders was stripped of his WBO middleweight strap after testing positive for a banned substance in the lead-up to a scheduled fight with Demetrius Andrade, who eventually captured that belt. The British boxer is now moving up to the super middleweight division to fight for the vacant WBO title on April 13.
