Amir Khan reveals that Terence Crawford's request for an immediate rematch clause has given him a boost of confidence.
Khan will challenge Crawford for the WBO welterweight title on April 20th, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Khan is as high as a 10-1 underdog with some oddsmakers.
While Crawford appears to be very confident of the outcome, Khan is not so sure.
After reviewing the bout agreement, Khan noticed that Crawford demanded a rematch clause - a request that put a smile on Khan's face.
“He shows respect but, inside that squared circle, he goes to war. But in the contract I noticed a rematch clause, which gave me a confidence boost. There must be some doubt in him to have that rematch clause. But Crawford’s a very good boxer and he reads a fight very well. His weakness is that he’s a little wild and can get into trouble. I think it will go the distance and I’ll win by unanimous decision," Khan said to The Guardian.
Part of the reason that many are not giving Khan a chance at victory, was his last performance against Samuel Vargas.
Khan, who won a unanimous decision, was dropped in the fight and he was also rocked in the later stages of the contest.
According to Khan, he took Vargas lightly and viewed him as an easy opponent.
But he also feels that his lackluster performance played a big role in landing the Crawford fight.
“I trained hard but, after 35 fights, I took the guy too lightly,” Khan said. “When I knocked him down I thought it was going to be easy. And then he caught me. But I got up and won big on the scorecards. It was not a great performance but I might not have got this fight without Vargas. Crawford knows I’m still a big name but he thinks it’s going to be easy.”
