Eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao is still crossing his fingers that Floyd Mayweather will decided to unretire for a high stakes rematch.
Mayweather won a twelve round unanimous decision over Pacquiao in what is still the most lucrative fight in boxing history.
Their fight shattered every financial record and sold the most buys on pay-per-view with 4.6 million purchases.
Last year there were heavy rumors of a rematch when Pacquiao and Mayweather were filmed side by side, speaking at an event in Tokyo, and then the two boxers were filed running into each other at a basketball game in the United States - which is exactly what transpired when their bout became reality in 2015.
Pacquiao is now 40-years-old, Mayweather is 42.
In the aftermath of his loss, Pacquiao claimed that he entered the contest with a shoulder injury and could not perform properly after aggravating the injury in the fourth round.
He had surgery a few days after the fight.
“If he really comes back and fights with me, then that’s good for me,” Pacquiao said to The Press Telegram. “We can show who is the real winner. I would be healthy.”
Pacquiao says the rematch "means a lot.”
Mayweather retired from the sport in August of 2017, when he stopped UFC superstar Conor McGregor in the tenth round of a cross-sport boxing match.
Pacquiao is back in the ring next Saturday night, when he faces his toughest opponent in several years, undefeated WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman. Their fight takes place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
A win over Thurman would place Pacquiao in position to face the winner of the fall unification clash between Errol Spence and Shawn Porter, who collide for the WBC, IBF welterweight belts.
