Martin Murray will return to middleweight in his next outing.
The St Helens man, 34, a former multi-time world title challenger, is set to be back in action on April 22.
Murray, who has fought up at super-middleweight since losing to middleweight king Gennady Golovkin two years ago, will make the step back down in weight when he takes on Gabriel Rosado, live on Sky Sports, and he will be looking to advance his 34-4-1 (16 KOs) ledger with still harbouring ambitions to win a world title.
Their bill-topping clash, as part of a card billed ‘Beautiful Brutality’, which is to be promoted by Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, will take place at the ECHO Arena in Liverpool.
Rosado (23-10, 13 KOs) is a 31-year-old Philadelphia native, a former world title challenger who shares a common opponent with Murray in the shape of Golovkin and has been out of action since last September when he lost on points at the hands of another ‘GGG’ foe Willie Monroe Jr.
The fight was confirmed on social media on Friday afternoon, with a formal announcement for the fight –– and the rest of the card –– set for Monday at a press conference in the fight city.
Further details, including ticket information and the undercard, will be revealed in due course, but Boxing Scene understands that the bill will feature Murray’s gym-mate Rocky Fielding as well as WBA International super-lightweight champion Tom Farrell, WBC International lightweight champion Sean Dodd and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Scott Fitzgerald, among others. |
