BILLY JOE SAUNDERS (24-0, 12 KOs) has been told to shed the pounds if he wishes to secure a world title unification with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs).
The Mexican superstar was in London today alongside Kazakh KO artist Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) to promote their WBA, WBC, IBO and IBF middleweight title fight at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 16. HBO Pay-Per-View and BoxNation will showcase the event.
And Saunders, the reigning WBO champion, gate-crashed the press conference as he bids to secure a clash with the winner.

The Hatfield man will defend his belt at London’s Copper Box Arena on the same night and then hopes to fight whoever comes out on top in Sin City.
But Canelo laughed off the suggestion of stepping in with Saunders.
He said: “I didn’t even recognize Saunders. He needs to lose some weight before he can even think about fighting one of us.
“Anyway I can promise you this, if we were to fight, I could beat him with one arm tied behind my back and my eyes closed.”
The opponent for Saunders’ clash on September 16 is expected to be confirmed this week although it is understood that current mandatory challenger David Lemieux is injured.
Saunders said: “I hope Canelo wins. Why? Just because he’s a ginger bloke.” |
