Broner appearing on that card is a stretch, because that's less than a month from his upcoming fight with three division champion Mikey Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs).
The fight with Garcia takes place on July 29th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. But Broner feels he can make that quick of a turnaround - provided there are no injuries, and provided that he wins the bout. Garcia, who never fought any higher than the lightweight limit of 135-pounds, is as high as a 5-1 favorite to beat him. Broner has captured world titles at 130, 135, 140 and the welterweight limit of 147.
Mayweather has been getting a lot of heat for the bout with McGregor - who undeniably is one of the most popular athletes in the world, but he doesn't have any pro boxing experience. Mayweather, who is 40-years-old, has been inactive since announcing his retirement in September 2015.
Broner loves the idea of the fight - because Mayweather is going to make over $100 million for what most believe will be a one-sided domination of a fighter.
"What can I say? [Mayweather] a f---ing genius," Broner told CBS Sports. "Hell, if I don't take any punishment after my fight, I would like to fight the next UFC star on the undercard. F--- it. After this podcast, I'm going to call [adviser] Al [Haymon] and tell him to make me a fight with Steph Curry." |
