库托自打输给阿瓦雷兹丢掉WBC中量级拳王头衔后，直至上个月才打了一场比赛，12回合击点数败龟海喜宽，获得了WBO超次中量级拳王头衔。赛后他的教练罗琦告诉记者，他们的下一个目标是阿瓦雷兹VS戈洛夫金之间的胜者。

Golovkin's Promoter: We Want Saunders Next, Cotto is Possible

The goal has not changed for WBA, IBO, WBC, IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs).

He is still focused on unifying the entire middleweight division - and there is only one world title remaining - the WBO world title which is held by Billy Joe Saunders (24-0, 12 KOs).

Up first, is the biggest boxing showdown of the year - when Golovkin defends his middleweight crown against Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs) on September 16th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ironically, on the same night that Golovkin defends his titles against Canelo - over in the UK, Saunders is scheduled to defend his title against Willie Monoe Jr., who was stopped by Golovkin in May of 2015.

"Since winning the WBC title, Gennady was determined to take on the other world champions and there was no way to get them all into a ring," recalled Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler to ESPN Deportes.

"Terence Crawford was very lucky as he was pitted against a champion [Julius Indongo] with two titles on him. Gennady has always wanted to unify all the titles and now he only has to win one more, the WBO, which is in the possession of Billy Joe Saunders, whom we want to face after this match against Canelo."

Last month, four division world champion Miguel Cotto finally returned to the ring for the first time since losing a decision to Canelo in November 2015. He dominated Yoshihiro Kamegai over twelve rounds to capture the WBO junior middleweight title.

After the match, Cotto's trainer - Freddie Roach - told reporters they would target the winner of Golovkin-Canelo for a date in December, which is when Cotto is planning to retire from the sport.

According to Cotto, it was Roach's call on who they would fight next.

If Cotto wants it - Loeffler says there is no issue with doing that fight.

"We could accept a match against Miguel Cotto, who is a true legend and everyone remembers him beating the great Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez [to become a middleweight champion," Loeffler said.
