Former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has revealed to close members of his team that he intends to return to the ring in mid-November, according to ESPN Deportes.
The return would come six months after he lost to his countryman Saul "Canelo" Alvarez this past May at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The contest against Canelo took place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds, which saw him coming down from 168 - and Canelo coming up from 154-pounds.
Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KO's), fighting at his lowest weight since 2012, was very weak and weigh-drained in the contest, and saw himself get dominated over twelve rounds as Canelo won an easy unanimous decision victory.
Chavez Jr. once again intends to fight at 168 pounds after scoring. Chavez Jr was disappointed that he could not offer a level of competitiveness in his last contest to meet the expectations of his loyal fans.
Many names have been mentioned for his return, but it will be necessary to see if his adviser Al Haymon in the United States or promoter Fernando Beltrán in Mexico will get him an attractive fight.
Chavez Jr. has mentioned the name of middleweight contender Daniel Jacobs on several occasions, but Jacobs has no desire to take that fight.
The current super middleweight champions include IBF champion James DeGale (recovering from injury), WBA champion George Groves (competing in the World Boxing Super Series), WBO champion Gilberto Ramirez (facing mandatory challenger Jesse Hart later this month), and the WBC title will be decided on Friday between David Benavidez and Ronald Gavril in Las Vegas..
