In addition to donating to earthquake victims, undefeated middleweight Gennady Golovkin will perform various social work activities in Mexico City at the end of October.
Golovkin, who holds the world titles of the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Organization (IBO), was named at the WBC's 55th annual convention as the "Man of the Year."
During his time in Mexico, Golovkin will have a tight schedule, in addition to ** a donation of 50 thousand dollars to those affected by the recent earthquake.
"He is coming to Mexico in October and he will take part in a series of activities. Always visit the Basilica (of Guadalupe), a hospital, a school and eat tacos," Mauricio Sulaiman, who is the President of the World Boxing Council.
Sulaiman highlighted the human quality of Golovkin, whom he considers an example inside and outside the ring, stays away from scandals, and stays away from any situations that could prevent him from being one of the more popular boxers.
"He has been an example to the society, he is a family man who is dedicated to help others, to contribute and that is honorable. He has never been involved in a scandal and that has caused him remain popular and end up like a lot of other athletes who go through scandals and problems," Sulaiman said.
Finally, he said that Golovkin has received the WBC's recognition of the "Man of the Year," because he was considered by the organization as the most influential individual in the sport.
"We are proud of our champion, that he is an ambassador for us in Mexico," Sulaiman said.
Golovkin fought last month, when he went to a controversial twelve round split draw with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. There are ongoing talks to stage a rematch of that fight in May of next year, during Cinco De Mayo weekend.
