On December 9, Guillermo Rigondeaux (17-0, 11 KOs) is ready to shock the critics when he steps into the ring with WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (9-1, 7 KOs) in an ESPN televised main event.
The fight takes place at The Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Rigondeaux, who holds the WBA super bantamweight title at 122 pounds, is moving up by two full weight divisions to challenge Lomachenko at 130.
"He has fought with inferior boxers compared to who I've faced; As for his stature, almost all of my opponents have been taller than me, and if there is any concern that I'm going up by two weight divisions, it's because nobody wants to fight me at 122 and 126 pounds," Rigondeaux explained to Sports Center.
Rigondeaux is working very hard in camp, with no longer worrying about this weight - as he has eight extra pounds to spare against Lomachenko.
The talented Cuban fighter scoffs at the idea of having any issues with Lomachenko on a boxing level. He feels Lomachenko has faced numerous opponents who were grossly overmatched or improperly trained.
"I will not have problems, he is the one who is going to have them, because I am not like those dead men with whom he has fought," said Rigondeaux.
