Two-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter (28-2-1) is very impressed with IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence (22-0).
The 27-year old Spence burst onto the scene in May when he captured the title with a knockout victory over Kell Brook in Brook's backyard in the UK.
Spence is scheduled to make the first defense of his title in January against the always tough former champion Lamont Peterson.
Porter believes that Spence is one of the top fighters at 147 pounds but wants revenge against Keith Thurman and a showdown against the more known Danny Garcia before taking on the former US Olympian.
"He made a lot of noise. A lot of noise. He earned the belt. I knew he was gonna win the belt even before he went over there and took it. I think he is one of the best fighters in the welterweight division - but I have my eyes set on Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia. These are the guys I grew up watching, competing against and so forth. Now is my time to get back in there with Keith and get that loss diminished and then go after Danny Garcia again," Porter explained.
One thing he wants everyone to know is that he isn't ducking Spence. He said that it isn't a matter of if he will fight him but rather it is a matter of when.
"That fight will happen. Everyone wants to know when but I can't give you a timeline," he explained.
Porter feels that if Spence has a couple of successful title defenses first, it will only make their fight bigger once they both line up against each other in the square circle.
"Every time we fight and win then we win fans. So the only thing he is going to do by beating Lamont Peterson is win fans and continue up his ladder. Lamont Peterson is not an easy rollover. Actually I am thinking it will be an interesting fight. I am very interested to see how that fight is gonna play out but we know that Errol Spence is the champion and he is a young hungry fighter and has proven that he is a winner so he will keep climbing and I will get some things out of the way and then we will duke it out," Porter told BoxingScene.com.
