Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) is firing back at the numerous statements being made by Abel Sanchez, who is the trainer of WBA, WBC, IBO, IBF middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs).
The two boxers fought to a controversial twelve round split draw last September.
They are now set to collide for a second time, on May 5th as part of Cinco De Mayo weekend from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which is where the first bout took place.
Canelo acknowledged he could have been more aggressive in the first fight, maintaining that he had not taken advantage of openings that presented themselves.
That was something he plans to rectify in the rematch.
"I learned a lot," Canelo said. "When I made him miss there were a lot of openings that I didn't take advantage of. Now I'm going to work in the gym to take advantage of those chances.
"We both want to win convincingly. We both want to erase any doubt. And that's going to make the fight more interesting -- because if we take more risks, there's going to be more openings."
Sanchez has claimed in numerous interviews that Canelo ran for the entire fight after feeling the power of Golovkin.
The Mexican boxer rejects those claims. He says Sanchez's star fighter took very few himself because he was getting tagged with counter shots.
Canelo says he was never hurt a single time in the contest, but saw Golovkin rattled from hard shots.
"He didn't take a lot of risks either, because he was afraid of getting counter-punched," Canelo said. "I did hurt him, but I can assure you he never hurt me in the whole fight."
Canelo has reviewed the first contest, he knows the proper adjustments that he needs to make and admits that his clearest way to victory is to knock Golovkin out.
"I've seen the first fight. I know the changes I must make. That's going to be the key to victory. It's about adding more things to the preparation. We're going to add to the arsenal and add more conditioning, punches and aggression. I need to add more punches and aggression for the victory to be clear. The best way to win this fight is by knockout. It's not easy, but I can do it," Canelo said.
