Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) is putting together a new plan of attack for the future.
The Mexican boxer has been inactive since May of 2017, when he lost a very one-sided decision to country rival Saul "Canelo" Alvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Their contest took place at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds, which Chavez managed to make - but at the same time his body was spent from squeezing down that low.
Now Chavez is looking to bounce back and get himself back in the mix.
A few years ago, a fight between Chavez and middleweight king Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) was in serious discussions.
But then Chavez had a contractual dispute with Top Rank and a contest with Golovkin was placed on the backburner.
Chavez said he will return to the ring at the end of July or in August against someone like Gabriel Rosado or Sergio Mora.
And after two or three fights, he would like to once again explore a fight with Golovkin.
"At this point in my career I do not like to say names, it is well known that if you say names it could cause issues in the the negotiation, but names have been mentioned like Sergio Mora, Gabriel Rosado - fighters who have been ranked and have fought for a world championships. I will gladly fight with any of them. I have never said no to any opponent. The most important thing is to stay active and be in the best moment of my career," Chavez Jr. told ESPN Deportes.
"I would like to face [Golovkin], at my weight logically and doing two fights before that. I need to do two or three fights to reach the top of my physical capacity and be active to reach my best moment, and then grab a major fight - which could be Golovkin. I think if I take that fight, it would be to win it and not just to fight him."
