Golovkin: Canelo Can Enter Last, I Will Leave Last After I Win
WBC/WBA/IBO middleweight world champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) is looking to close he book on Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs).
An their rematch takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, on Saturday, September 15.
The event will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.

The first contest, which took place in the same Las Vegas venue in September 2017, saw the two boxers battle to a controversial twelve round split draw.
There were some bumps in the road for their negotiations, but they eventually reached a 55-45 agreement on the money.
Golovkin has no problem with Canelo getting more money, getting the top billing and entering the ring last - because GGG is only focused on victory.
“I am happy that the deal is done and the rematch is back on. I am ready to get back to work in Big Bear with Abel. This is the biggest fight for boxing, the fight everyone wants. It is a fight to see who is best. It is for boxing history," Golovkin said.
"I am happy to be defending my titles on Mexican Independence Day, a great stage for true Mexican-Style boxing. Canelo can walk to the ring last. Canelo can be introduced last. The important thing is who leaves the ring last, and that will be me, as world champion, the people's champion.”
The second fight was nearly derailed after their initial date on May 5th was canceled - after Canelo tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol - and then received a six month suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Their negotiations were very tense, with Canelo initially offering a split of 70-30, and Golovkin standing firm on 50-50. It took a few weeks, and several times Canelo's handlers said the contest was off, but eventually both sides came to terms. |
