Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs) is planning to throw a lot of combinations, in every round, when he challenges WBC, WBA, and IBO middleweight world champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (38-0-1, 34 KOs) in their anticipated rematch.
The event will take place Saturday, Sept. 15 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at a special time of 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT.
The first contest, which took place last September, at very same venue, ended in a controversial twelve round split draw.
Canelo has several adjustments that he's planning to make.
He predicts Golovkin will fight in the same exact manner when they collide. After reviewing numerous fights that involved GGG, Canelo has become convinced that the unified champion can only fight in a single style and a single mode of attack.
"The last fight gave us the blueprint for this rematch. We don't necessarily have to change the strategy; we just have to add to what we did. We have to throw more punches in every round. We need to do that to remove any doubts about the victory. For that we will work on our conditioning. That's what we needed a little more of in the first fight in order to be able to throw punches constantly in each round," Canelo said.
"We have been training very well. We've been working hard on the conditioning. That's what we'll need a lot of in the second fight. We're focused. We're focused on the style of Golovkin. We know that he's not going to change. He's going to go out to do the same thing he always does and come forward. He may want to change, but when things get tough, he'll go back to the style he's been using his whole life and which he has never changed."
