Earlier this month, Errol Spence (24-0) and Mikey Garcia (39-0) met the press in Arlington, Texas at Cowboys Stadium to promote their March 16th showdown. The fight will headline the first pay-per-view event on FOX who recently entered into a long term agreement with Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions.
As of this writing, Spence is listed as a close to 4-1 favorite over the four-division champion who will be fighting at the welterweight limit for the first time in his career.
Spence was asked if he was surprised that he is headlining a pay-per-view event in only his 25th professional fight and that he is getting a chance to do it close to home.
"I think the right opponent and the right network and Jerry Jones backing with the Cowboys. Just the multiple entities coming together have made this happen," Spence stated.
The 29-year-old former US Olympian doesn't plan on stopping with Garcia either. If he has it his way he would like to face future Hall of Famer and WBA welterweight title holder Manny Pacquiao at the same venue.
Pacquiao headlined the first two boxing events in Cowboys Stadium in 2010 when he dominated Joshua Clottey. He followed that up with an unanimous decision victory over Antonio Margarito.
"I think it makes sense for Pacquiao to come here and fight. I mean he has a huge fan base and FOX Pay-Per-View right here at the AT&T Stadium - I think that would be big me versus Pacquiao," said Spence.
