Canelo Alvarez was overwhelmed by the recent reception that he received at a media tour event in Mexico, to promote his upcoming fight with Daniel Jacobs on May 4 in Las Vegas.
The two fighters will battle for the IBF, WBA, WBC middleweight titles at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Canelo wants to become the first Mexican boxer to unify all four of the major titles in a single weight class.
Canelo has vowed to bring back Jacobs' IBF title to Mexico - ** a similar promise to what he stated in December of 2018, when he moved up to 168-pounds to capture the WBA "regular" title from Rocky Fielding at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
"It's very important for me to come to my country, it's a great pride to represent Mexico , I just want to set a good example for the youth," said Canelo.
"I like to train at 100 percent, I have a very complicated opponent in front of me but I will give everything of myself and we will come out with the victory."
Eddy Reynoso, head trainer and manager of Canelo, confirmed that their plan for the year is to sweep the entire middleweight division. He views Jacobs as the second best fighter in the weight class.
Should Canelo defeat Jacobs, the next likely fight will be a showdown with WBO middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade, who like Jacobs is represented by Matchroom Sport CEO Eddie Hearn.
"After Canelo, the next best middleweight is Daniel Jacobs, and we know it's going to be a strong fight. This year, we want to sweep the middleweight division and Daniel is in the way, so he's going to have to lose. We're going to do what we always do, prepare strong and properly. We won't take any shortcuts because in 2019, we're sweeping the division," Reynoso said.
